An Inside Look at DreamHack 2018

October 16, 2018

Calling all gamers and internet geeks.

What happens when you mix your favorite video games and competitions with live concerts and expert panels? Introducing DreamHack Atlanta 2018! DreamHack is a 3 day gaming event that takes place at the Georgia World Congress Center from November 16-18.

With the rising popularity of esports, video game competitions are popping up everywhere, but only DreamHack has the world record for largest LAN party. What makes DreamHack uniques is the option to BYOC: bring your own computer. This means that all ticket holders are allowed to bring their devices to the competition. The open tournament is spread out over three days with prize money adding up to $50,000.

There is more than just games and competition at this event. The expo hall has different zones for fans to explore all the various aspects of video games. The Community Zone allows ticket holders to connect with their fellow gamers. Here, people participate in cosplay competitions, talk to cosplayers about how they created their costume, and watch people compete in speedrunning marathons to see who can complete a game in the fastest time possible. Another interesting installment to the festival is the Art Zone. This area visualizes indie video games created by the gamers themselves. The art is handpicked by the DreamHack staff and must include some aspect of an indie video game within the work. Participants are also allowed to purchase any of the artwork that is on display. For anyone who wants to understand the business behind esports, the Business Zone has panels about marketing, publishing, and everything you need to know about the operations behind the games.

And, lastly, of course, there is music! Friday, November 16 is EDM night, with DJs such as Slushii, Kill the Noise, and Riot spinning. Saturday, November 17 is Hip-Hop night. London On Da Track will be opening for Mick Jenkins on the main stage to close off the music for the festival. On both nights the performances will be available on live stream to watch from anywhere in the world.

This festival has something for everyone, so get your tickets now before they sell out! Tickets can be purchased on a day-by-day option or with a 3 day bundle. The coolest part about the 3 day pass is that you are granted 24 hour access to the venue - which means you never have to leave (and yes, they have a sleeping area for you!). You won’t want to miss this exciting event! Grab your tickets here. Happy gaming!
